In 1860, Sassello, a small town in the heart of the Ligurian region became the birthplace of a refined and exquisite delicacy: Amaretti Virginia.

The bakery shop which produced these special biscuits, soon became a favourite meeting place for both, locals as well as visitors, so much so that the piazza where it stood was named "Piazza degli Amaretti Virginia".

The fragrance of the almond paste and their unique soft-centred texture soon won Amaretti Virginia high recognition at the most celebrated International Food Exhibitions. Amongst these: a 1st Class diploma with medal awarded in occasion of the 1892 Colombus Centenary in Genoa and, in 1911 in Paris. were highly honoured and awarded with the Gold Medal by an elite panel of judges for their delicate flavour.

These, and many other medals and diplomas won at various International Exhibitions of the era ( Arcachon 1897, Turin 1898, Genoa 1903 etc. ) are to this day treasured at Head Office.

Attempts to imitation were many, so much so that in 1897, the Founder, officially registered the Brand Virginia under the protection of the law of the Kingdom of Italy.
